Quake 3 Arena:

Quake 3 Arena is definitely a game that has been around a while, but it is extremely popular and its graphics engine is still top of the line and definitely can put some stress on a video card with lots of textures and objects moving around rapidly. While I doubt anyone using a GeForce card uses the "Fastest" setting, it is still included as a baseline number. "High Quality" is the regular High Quality setting, while the last 3 columns use the base High Quality settings but manipulating the settings as described. The numbers came from Demo001.

Creative Labs GeForce2 GTS 204.0FPS 143.3 FPS 87.4 FPS 51.8 FPS 36.4 FPS

Here in a "Real World" benchmark, the GF2MX 400 shows to be a very capable video card. While The GF2MX 400 is only about 1/3 as fast as a GeForce3, it also only costs about 1/3 as much as a GeForce3! Realistically you could play Q3A with any of these video cards just fine, it all just boils down the how many FPS you want and how high you want to crank up the graphics, and of course how much money you have to spend on a video card.

Conclusions & Final Thoughts:

I definitely have to say that the ABIT Siluro GeForce2 MX 400 is an excellent video card for its price. Sporting 64MB of RAM, and excellent potential for overclocking, this could be the budget PC users dream for about $75. While we all dream about having the newest and fastest video card out on the market, most of us simply can't afford to spend several hundred dollars every few months just to gain a few extra FPS or couple hundred 3DMarks. NVIDIA has shown it's continuing the GeForce2 chips with the new Titanium line, and also with NVIDIA's Detonator drivers, all of the GeForce chips use the same unified driver so you will always be able to get the latest driver no matter which GeForce card you own.

Pros:
  Good Performance For The Price
  All The Usual GF2MX Features
Continued NVIDIA Support Through Unified Drivers
  64MB Of RAM

Cons:
  Video Card Prices Always Dropping
Faster Video Cards Always Coming Out

Rating:

For The Average User: 10 / 10
  For The Hardcore Gamer: 8 / 10
  For The Extreme Overclocker: 8 / 10
